Have you heard of neurolinguistic programming but it is still not clear exactly what it is? How to use NLP to influence and improve your own life and that of others? What are the keys to mastering NLP and making the most of its testing?
Neurolonguistic programming (or NPL) is a mental health practice designed and popularized in the 1970s.
You can try some techniques in your own home, or you can go to class and get certified as a practitioner or trainer.
While NLP has been widely discredited and poorly recommended by psychologists, it still has many loyal users, especially in business and the world of self-help. Reach success with NLP you too thanks to the following tips:
Start practicing with you
When you start planning in detail what you want in your life, the main thing is what you want, instead of what you don't. Don't set negative goals about things you want to lose or don't want. Think about what you want to achieve, obtain and develop.
State your goals in a way that represents your complete desire. For example, if you want to have a partner, instead of stating your goal as "Meet someone special," try saying something like, "Live my life with someone I really love."
A goal that sounds satisfactory will motivate you more than a goal that only expresses one step in the plan.
Asking yourself positive questions is also a fundamental NLP practice.. Ask things Bore the things you would like to change in your life. Your mind will try to answer any question you ask, so be sure to phrase your questions in a way that connects with helpful and positive responses. For example, instead of answering "What problem do I have?", The logical thing would be to ask yourself: "What can I do to feel better?", "In what ways would I like to change my life?", "How will my life improve? if I make those changes?
NLP practitioners believe that thinking about an image of people, events, or other things can help you understand how to feel about them. To achieve this, draw in your mind the image of something or someone that bothers you. Then make the changes to the mental image as if you were editing it on a computer. Paint dark and fading the image of people or things that make you feel bad. Paint bright and getting closer to the people and things you want to get closer to yourself. Notice how those changes make you feel.
Manage your negative internal voices. How you maintain your internal dialogue has a lot to do with your happiness and mental health. Most psychologists will ask you to be mindful of how you talk to yourself and to change your tone to one that is more friendly and encouraging. Neuro-linguistic programming takes different approaches: it suggests that you deal with the sound of the negative voice so that it has less power. If you hear someone say something like "You will never get to do that," repeat the message but with a distorted sound. Make it sound like a cartoon, and notice how the different versions of voices make you feel.
When you have a negative experience that haunts you, treat it like a movie. Play it backwards and start from after it happened to before it happened. Do this several times until you memorize the reverse sequence. Now add a different ending, one that you like more. Do you notice how you feel now about that experience?
Visualize colors and connect them with your feelings that you would like to experience. For example, if you want more confidence, imagine a color that represents it to you, like a bright orange. Imagine a bright square of that color before you. In your mind, step into the square and focus on feeling that emotion. Imagine exactly how you would look and feel inside the square. The next time you want to experience that feeling, visualize the square before you. Take a step inward and notice how you feel.
Become a NLP practitioner
If you find NLP techniques helpful, practice them regularly. Start doing it once a day until you get into the habit of using the techniques whenever you need them. Many people choose to keep a journal where they keep track of their neurolinguistic programming practice and its results. You can talk to a mental health professional about what you do with NLP.
There are also paid NLP workshops and you can find courses with a quick internet search. You can find specific classes for professionals in many cities, so it is advisable to receive training before working with it. While NLP is no longer considered a valid psychology tool, many jobs require it in order to inspire a positive attitude in the team.
These classes could help you get certified, that is, as someone who has learned NLP and promotes themselves as someone capable of teaching NLP to others.
Remember that there are alternative practices. Although considered useful by many, NLP is not a scientifically endorsed school of thought. If your NLP practices are making you feel worse or you think they are not working out as you expected, consider other forms of cognitive intervention with more support.
